Passenger traffic numbers in Greece are down for the sixth consecutive month following the disruptions in air travel caused by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
According to the data released by HCAA ( Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority) , passenger traffic through Greece’s airports dropped by 70 percent in the first eight months of the year to 13.4 million passengers against 44.9 million in 2019.
The number of fights through Greek airports during the January-August 2020 period amounted to 161,180 – of which 83,852 were domestic and 77,328 international – showing a drop of 56.3 percent, compared to the corresponding period of 2019 when 368,414 flights had operated.
In August alone, Greece’s best month in terms of tourist arrivals, a total of 4,539,902 passengers went through Greek airports, down by 55.7% compared to the same month in 2019 when 10,238,414 passengers visited the country.
